EMG's focussed work on mining and environmental justice issues came to an
end in 2002 with the wrap-up of government's public participation process
into the drafting of the Mining and Minerals Act, and with the hand-over of
EMG's mining project activities in Witbank to the locally-based SA Green
Revolutionary Council.

The document Towards a mineral policy that people can live with (1997) EMG
was a product of a number of workshops with community representatives
to prepare for a review of the Mining and Minerals Act.
As part of a broader "cleaner production" programme, EMG
commissioned a detailed study of the mining industry. The publication
