Our staff

Stephen Law is the Executive Director, and has been in this position
for more years than he can remember. Apart from dealing with the
day-to-day management of the organisation, and its longer-term
health and development, he takes a special interest in EMG's work
in the the Fair Trade field. He is also an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees and keeps this website updated during his lunch-break!

Nontembo Bam has been with EMG since 1999. She joined fresh out of secretarial college an Admin Assistant and Receptionist and as she gained experience and confidence, became responsible for many of the organizations administrative functions. And she's moving still, gradually taking over EMG's bookkeeping and financial information management responsibilities.

Sandrea Hartle runs the "front office" and is the first voice and face most visitors to EMG hear and see. Together with Nontembo, she provides administrative and logistical support to project managers. She has been with EMG since May 2008 as a temp.

Jessica Wilson manages a number of projects with a focus on international trade, environmental economics, water climate change and broader questions of sustainable development and environmental justice. She likes the "big picture" stuff that everyone else finds a bit boring. Over lunch and tea breaks she cares lovingly for EMG’s courtyard garden and is a mean crossword solver.

Thabang Ngcozela has been active in keeping other South African civil society organisations aware of important international negotiations around sustainable development issues. He is also EMG's most active networker the on these and other water justice related issues.

Noel Oettle manages a suit of rural-based projects and runs EMG's rural field-office in Niewoudville, Northern Cape, where he also lives and tends to his patch of organic fruit and vegetables. Noel strives to link local and global realities in ways that enable small-scale rooibos farmers to respond more effectively to the challenges of trade, climate change and biodiversity loss while also enabling decision makers to understand and respond to the realities of rural people.

Our newest addition, Lazarus Joseph, is responsible for EMGs work in the agricultural fair trade field. This includes serving the AFIT Network, co-ordinating training, farmer-to-farmer visits, research, advocacy, etc.

Mary Galvin (Water Dialogues Co-ordinator) and Ruby Essack (Water Dialogues Administrator) are both EMG employees, although reporting directly to the Water Dialogues Management Committee. They operate out of the project office in Durban.

Over the years we have looked after a number of interns and short-term employees. Some of them still keep in touch...
